Participant and Spectator Information

Lambpoint 2024 will take place at Cary Street Gym on April 6th, 2024 from 9:00 AM-7:00 PM. It is held in the Basketball courts. There will be signs with directions, and the staff at the front desk will also point you towards us.

ALL SPECTATORS AND PARTICIPANTS MUST PRESENT A VALID PHOTO ID (student ID, driver's license, state issued ID, etc.) TO ENTER THE GYM
The anticipated schedule of events is

  •  9:00am - 10:00am Check-In
  • 10:00am - 10:30am Welcome, Ruleset & Safety Overview
  • 10:30am - 1:00pm Pool Fights, Round 1
  • 1:00pm - 2:00pm Lunch
  • 2:00pm - 4:30pm Pool Fights, Round 2
  • 4:45pm - 6:45pm Elimination Rounds
  • 6:45pm - 7:00pm Recieving Honors

Participant Expectations

All participants (including spectators) must abide by all VCU university rules as well as VCU HEMA rules and expectations.

  • All swords and fencing equipment must remain in an opaque bag until checked in by event staff.
  • All Non-VCU participants must remain in the appropriate event vicinity (basketball courts). 
  • All participants must wear appropriate safety equipment while fencing. 
    • Helmet, Gloves, and Cup (for partcipants with external genitals) 
  • All participants must adhere to gym dress code
    • Shirts are required, no bare chests.
    • Shorts must cover the entire buttocks.
    • Clothing with exposed rivets, buttons, zippers, metal parts, or features likely to damage equipment are not permitted.
    • Appropriate athletic footwear is required in all activity areas. Closed-toed shoes are required in all activity areas, except designated locations. 
    • refrain from wearing loose/dangling articles such as long jewelry, lanyards, cloaks, or suspenders worn loosely around the hips (they must be fastened securely at the shoulders).
  • All participants must sign in at the front desk and recieve a wristband before being permitted to compete or engage in any type of sparring. 
    • Pre-registered fencers must sign an Assumption of Risk form. These must be signed on the premises and will be provided for participants. 
  • All participants are expected to adhere to the zones marked for safety and keep them clear of obstacles (such as gear, water bottles, etc.).  
    • Free sparring must be kept in the zone marked for sparring.
    • Only registered fencers may participate in free sparring
    • Areas marked for judges and directors to safely move around the competition lanes are expected to be kept completely clear of gear and people.
  • All participants are expected to exhibit appropriate behavior at all times. Inappropriate conduct can result in removal from the premises at the discretion of event staff and gym security. 
  • VCU HEMA does not tolerate hate speech or discrimination of any kind.
  • No alcohol, tobacco, or illicit substances are allowed on VCU property.

Spectator Expections

Spectators are welcome to come observe and do not need to preregister or purchase a ticket. 

  • All specators must bring a valid photo ID, sign in at the front desk, and recieve a wristband before being permitted to enter the tournament space. 
  • All spectators under the age of 18 must be signed in by a parent or legal guardian. 
  • All spectators must stay within zones marked for spectation.   
  • Spectators who have not registered to fence nor have assigned the Assumption of Risk form are not, under any circumstances, permitted to fence or spar. 
  • The seating at the basketball court is limited. Spectators are encouraged to bring their own chairs if they would like them. 
  • Spectators are expected to exhibit appropriate behavior at all times. Inappropriate conduct can result in removal from the premises at the discretion of event staff and gym security.
  • No alcohol, tobacco, or illicit substances are allowed on VCU property.
