VCU HEMA Club
powered by TidyHQWelcome to VCU HEMA
This club aims to educate its members in the Historical European Martial Arts. Recreating the weapons and fighting styles of Medieval and Renaissance Europe. We Achieve this with synthetic versions of historical weapons that accurately simulate the characteristics of the weapons they represent. We also study the works of reputable scholars and translators, as well as the original source texts of fencing masters. We specialize in German Longsword, but can also cover polearms, saber, and other weapons and styles. This club is open only current VCU students (undergraduate, graduate, medical, etc) and faculty, no experience necessary.
Our mission is to afford everyone the opportunity to learn Historical European Martial Arts by providing instruction of the highest quality, imparting to club members the principles of footwork, weapon handling, weapon safety as well as weapon management, teamwork, and community. We accept members regardless of one's gender, sexual orientation, race, creed, ethnicity, et cetera. We believe that HEMA is better with a basis of diversity and inclusion, and aim to make our club a safe space for everyone with an interest in historical fencing. We practice our sport in an environment without separation based on gender.
